Sew-N-Sews Stitch Together a Season of Creativity and Community

Speaker Jan Kohlstedt

Peggy Abney

The Sew-N-Sews October meeting was a lively gathering filled with inspiration, laughter, and exciting plans for the remainder of 2025. With attendance high and enthusiasm even higher, members were treated to a special presentation by local favorite Jan Kohlstedt who showcased her imaginative use of the Cricut machine.

Jan wowed the crowd with her ability to transform everyday materials—cotton fabric, cork, and vinyl—into stunning purses using denim, cigar boxes, and even gourds. She also showed earrings, decorated vests, and intricate paper crafts. Her demonstration was not only informative but delightfully entertaining, as always. Members interested in learning more can connect with Jan at the monthly Cricut Special Interest Group (SIG) meetings.

New SIG: Fabric ornaments spark holiday cheer. In addition to the Cricut group, Sew-N-Sews is launching a brand-new SIG focused on fabric ornaments. Members will have the opportunity to create dazzling, handmade decorations each month, just in time for the festive season.

Looking ahead: November guest speaker. Mark your calendars for Nov. 12 when Lauri McAlpin from Quilt Central Studio in Green Valley, Ariz., will join as the featured guest presenter. Her expertise promises to bring fresh ideas and inspiration to the group.

On Dec. 10 we will have our Christmas luncheon at the Palo Verde dining room. We will be entertained by the Sun Lakes Chordaires.

Membership is on the rise. With membership now at 152 and growing, Sew-N-Sews continues to be a vibrant hub for creativity and camaraderie. Whether you’re a seasoned crafter or just beginning your journey, there’s a place for you here.
