Our snowbird Lady Niners are slowly making their way back to sunny Arizona for the winter, and our foursomes are filling the Cottonwood fairways on Thursday afternoons. Welcome back!
Warmer attire is becoming more needed with the daytime temps cooling off as we move into our winter season, but it’s better being here than shoveling snow somewhere else!
Upcoming Lady Niners events include sending our league representatives to the state Medallion tournament being held at the Oakwood golf course on Jan. 9. This year our Niners Medallion qualifiers are Margo Sodahl, Patsy Lawless, Susan Utzinger Madsen, and Christy Thomas. Traditionally, our teams place well among other nine-hole golf teams representing their leagues from golf courses all over Arizona. Our Niners select net and gross golf representatives by playing four qualifying rounds during regular league play over the winter months. Good luck, ladies!
We are looking forward to our Member-Guest Tournament on Feb. 26. The tourney is our annual fundraiser where we play a fun round of golf, enjoy lunch, and bid on beautiful gift baskets donated by local businesses and ladies in our league. We also auction off rounds of golf with several of our Cottonwood pros. The bidding can get boisterous as the women vie for the opportunity to snatch one-on-one time with our talented pros! Our local Meals on Wheels program through Neighbors Who Care is the charity selected this year to receive funds collected through the donated baskets and pro auction proceeds. Please contact Diane Score at 308-750-3948 if you would like to donate to and support our charity event.
If you haven’t made a decision about joining a golf league, we are still welcoming new or returning lady golfers to join us! Take a look at our website cottonwoodnine.azgolf.org to learn more about us, then click on Contact Us to send our president Renee Seifert a quick message about your interest.
Funny for the day: “May thy ball lie in green pastures and not in still waters.”
