Members of the Sun Lakes Democratic Club (SLDC) are invited to attend the club’s Jan. 12 meeting featuring several important speakers who will provide updates on the 2026 election cycle, local races, and community services that directly impact our area.
One of the lesser-known elections is the SRP leadership election this April. Many residents are unsure about voter eligibility, how to request a ballot, and who is running—especially in SRP District 8 where many Sun Lakes members reside. Dr. Kathy Mohr-Almeida will provide a clear overview of the process, answer key questions, and explain why participation in this election is vital.
Those attending the SLDC meeting will also hear from Jonathan Hill who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Arizona Corporation Commission. Hill, an ASU graduate and engineer/scientist at the ASU Mars Space Flight Facility, will share his vision for the state’s energy and regulatory future as he seeks one of the two Commission seats on the 2026 ballot.
Other candidates sharing the podium are Dr. Racquel “Rockee” Armstrong, who is running for the Arizona House in LD 13, and Kristie O’Brien, who is seeking the LD 13 Senate seat. Both candidates will share their platforms and goals as they seek the Democratic nominations to represent LD 13 in the 2027–28 Arizona Legislative session.
Rounding out the list of speakers is Sheryl Keeme, executive director of Neighbors Who Care. Keeme, who has led Neighbors Who Care for more than five years, will cover the organization’s vital services, including transportation, meal delivery, handyman assistance, respite care, and more. She will also discuss the upcoming Aging Made Easier Conference scheduled for Jan. 27 in Sun Lakes.
Club members can also expect drop-ins from other Democratic candidates running in the 2026 Primary and General Elections. This is a valuable opportunity to meet candidates face-to-face and ask questions.
SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of more than 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 12, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd N., Sun Lakes.
We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee the first Friday of every month at Denny’s, 4977 S. Arizona Avenue in Chandler.
We support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar tax-deductible donation.
