Learn to make rope bowls and more with Viki Reed in April.
Shannon Lanning
Is it March already? As the saying goes, “Time flies when you’re having fun,” and that’s certainly true for the Agave Quilters Guild. Our guild continues to offer enjoyable and engaging activities, ensuring that members have something to look forward to each month.
A variety of low-cost, educational classes are offered exclusively to Agave members each month. These classes are taught by our own guild members. January classes offered were Jelly Roll Quilts, an ongoing Block of the Month Mystery Quilt (two mystery blocks are completed each month October through April), and Easy Cathedral Windows by Machine. February classes were Stars All Around Quilt using hourglasses and flying geese blocks. Scheduled in March is Origami Folded Flowers. In April you can learn how to sew rope bowls and work on the final two blocks for the B.O.M. Mystery Quilt, which will then be complete.
We had a lively and well-attended February meeting. Our speaker was Madonna, owner of Mad B’s Quilt and Sew in Mesa, whose presentations never fail to attract a lot of interest. This month she delivered an informative program on different fabrics used in quilting, from traditional cottons to minky-type fabrics. Madonna went into detail while passing around fabric samples for everyone to touch and see up close. It’s safe to say everyone gained valuable insights that will help improve their future quilting projects. Mad B’s is participating in the 2026 All Arizona & New Mexico Shop Hop, which began Feb. 1 and runs through March 31. Visit madbsquiltandsew.com for information.
The following monthly programs have been scheduled:
March 4: Sebrina Riddle from West Valley Quilting (panel quilts)
April 1: Cristy Fincher from Purple Daisies Quilting
May 6: To be announced
Sept. 2: To be announced
Oct. 7: Heidi Pridemore from The Whimsical Workshop (changed from September)
We welcomed three new members and two guests in February! Agave Quilters Guild welcomes new and returning members of all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. We meet on the first Wednesday of each month, September through May, at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd., Sun Lakes. Annual dues (January through December) are $25 with a one-time $15 purchase of an Agave name badge. Wearing your name badge allows you to participate in our door prize drawings at meetings and helps members get to know you better. Please join us as a guest at up to two meetings before deciding to join. For more information, visit agavequiltersguild.com.
