From Division to Unity: What’s Next?

Israel update by Rabbi Michael Beyo at Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation: Rabbi Beyo, historian and CEO of the East Valley Jewish Community Center, will discuss “From Division to Unity: What’s Next?” as part of the “Israel: A Nation and Its People” series on March 1, at 1 p.m.

Rabbi Beyo is an Israeli American who has visited Israel several times since Oct. 7, 2023, and has his pulse on both the Israel Defense Forces’ situation, as well as the different attitudes and concerns of the Israeli population.

Political diversity dominated the headlines in Israel prior to the horrendous attack by Hamas on Oct. 7, 2023. Division highlighted by huge demonstrations over court reforms, the Haredi draft, and Netanyahu’s leadership were the most intense. After the atrocious Hamas massacre, differences dissolved and a unity of cause prevailed to defeat Hamas and return the 250 hostages. All of the living hostages and all but one of the deceased have been returned to Israel during the current ceasefire. Hamas refuses to disarm, putting the second stage of the Trump Peace Deal in jeopardy. The same domestic issues remain, with national elections expected later this year. What is next?

The event is co-sponsored by the Friends of Israel, Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, and the East Valley Jewish Community Center.

This presentation is free and open to the public. Registration is required at evjcc.org/Israel. The specific location at Sun Lakes will be revealed to those registered days prior to the event.
