Rev. Jennifer Lambert
On Thursday evening, April 2, Sun Lakes United Methodist Church will host an interfaith Seder meal in partnership with our neighboring Jewish synagogue. This gathering is more than a shared dinner—it is an invitation to sit together, listen deeply, and learn from one another around a table, shaped by story, memory, and hope.
The Seder is a ritual meal that retells the story of the Exodus, when the Hebrew people were delivered from slavery in Egypt. Through symbolic foods, readings, and questions, participants are invited to remember suffering, celebrate freedom, and reflect on what liberation looks like in every generation. For Jewish families, the Seder is central to the celebration of Passover. For those from other faith traditions, it offers a meaningful opportunity to better understand the roots of shared Scripture and the enduring power of story.
In a time when the world often feels divided, this interfaith Seder is a simple but powerful act of connection. It reminds us that faith traditions, while distinct, often carry common values: gratitude, compassion, justice, and care for the vulnerable. Gathering together allows us to move beyond headlines and assumptions and toward genuine relationships—one conversation, one question, one shared meal at a time.
The evening will be guided by members of the Jewish community, with space for explanation, reflection, and respectful curiosity. No prior knowledge is needed—only an openness to learn and a willingness to listen. Whether you come from a faith tradition, many traditions, or none at all, you are welcome at the table.
As we prepare for this shared meal, we do so with gratitude for our neighbors and hope for what is possible when communities choose understanding over fear and hospitality over distance. Sometimes peace begins not with grand gestures, but with bread broken together and stories shared across the table.
We hope you will consider joining us for this meaningful evening of learning, remembrance, and connection. Seating is limited. You must make a reservation. Please contact Sun Lakes United Methodist Church at 480-895-8766 for tickets and details.
