Winter Softball Season Wraps—Spring Season Starts March 3

With a week to go in the regular Winter Season, the A-1 Golf Carts-sponsored team, managed by Vern Rodgers, led the Lakes Division with a record of 12-4. Manager Gary Hillabolt’s Young Home Team was in second place with a 9-6 mark. In the Sun Division, Manager Marty Hobby’s Wolfe & Associates squad had a 10-6 record. Both Manager Ron Carmichael’s Camp Hilby team and Manager Mike Gloyd’s Spooner Therapists had even .500 records.

Bob Molter was leading the Lakes Division with a batting average of .775, followed by Doug Warwick (.762), Vern Rodgers (.731), Mike Willits (.706), and Capt. Dan Malachuk (.695). Jay Yoakum led in long balls with five, while Craig Thompson had three inside-the-park homers. George Siegele led the Sun Division in average with an .815 mark. Frank Scarpelli (.779), Dennis Henderson (.772), Gino Fiasche (.770), and Marty Hobby (.760) rounded out the Top Five. Gino Fiasche led in home runs with a whopping 43. He was followed by George Siegele (34), Dennis Henderson and Don Long (19 each), and Frank Scarpelli (16). At his current HR pace, Gino could top the all-time record of 56 set by Bobby Farmer during the 2020-21 seasons.

A season-ending seeded tournament was held after the close of the regular season on Feb. 24, 26, and 27. The Spring Season starts March 3 and will run through mid-April. Go to our website www.sunlakessoftball.com for up-to-date stats and standings.

Our annual social event will be held on Monday, March 30. Tickets, priced at $25 per person, will be on sale at the Field of Dreams before the Lady Sluggers’ last home game on March 4 and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the men’s games on March 10, 12, and 13. More detailed information will be forthcoming. Note that all current members and former alumni members and their spouses or significant others are invited to attend. It’s a great time to mingle with everyone in a social environment.
