Creativity is limited only by your willingness to try something new! Artists and crafters live by this rule. If they didn’t, everything in the world would be exactly the same, and how boring would that be? The Sun Lakes community encourages its residents to show their creativity. Members of the Sun Lakes Rock, Gem & Silver Club (SLRGS) have the ability to not only create, but create in multiple mediums, and even more fun—blend multiple crafts together to create something truly unique.
Within the club, you can take classes and enjoy open shops in lapidary (rocks and stones), which includes cutting/polishing and faceting; use various metal techniques like lost wax, silversmithing, wire wrapping, metal clay; creative crafts, which include gourd crafting, beading, silverware bending, and enameling; or glass such as stained glass and fused glass.
The exciting part is that you can combine your creations from as many of these as you want into individual projects. Just think how exciting it would be to create your own cabochon in lapidary and wrap it with wire and include some lost wax embellishments, all hanging on a beaded chain you made. Or maybe make a fused glass panel to incorporate into a stained glass piece you are creating. Or carve a gourd and include cabochons, fused glass beads, and a copper turtle created in Lost Wax class. Want a one-of-a-kind wind chime? Make some fused or stained glass pieces and incorporate with lost wax or metal clay chimes. The options are limitless!
