Sun Lakes Community Theatre – April 2026

Murder Mystery This Summer

Join Sun Lakes Community Theatre for some action, intrigue, and laughs in a 1920s-inspired show entitled Death of a Gangster. Think beads, bow ties, and tassels. Dressing for the event is encouraged, but it’s not required. Get out and enjoy some time with your fellow Sun Lakes residents this summer.

There will be two shows in the San Tan Ballroom in Cottonwood: Friday, July 17, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, July 18, at 12:30 p.m. The ballroom is open one hour before showtimes to order food. The speakeasy staff will be serving, and your ticket includes one free beverage of choice (excluding premium brands).

For those brave souls who have an opinion or contribution to share, you may be in the show! Oh, and did I mention sequins, suspenders, feathers, and gloves? Gangster? If you are feeling frisky, maybe you can solve the mystery and be a hero. Save the date for one of these great performances and plan to be there. Don’t make us come and rough you up!

Tickets are $25 and will be available soon at SLCTinfo.com.

SLCT membership votes unanimously to welcome new Auxiliary Membership.

Sun Lakes Community Theatre Expands Its Membership

At Sun Lakes Community Theatre’s (SLCT) most recent annual meeting, an amendment to the bylaws was approved by the majority of the members present. It allows for a new category of membership to be called Auxiliary Membership. This membership can be applied for, even if a person does not live in Sun Lakes. For the same annual fee of $20, Auxiliary members (people who support the mission of SLCT) can enjoy all the same benefits as resident members, except for the right to vote or hold a board position. There are no age or geographic restrictions for Auxiliary members; however, only 20% of the total membership may consist of Auxiliary members. “We believe this will help diversify our membership base and allow us to produce a wider variety of plays,” said SLCT President Kate King-Turner. “This action is a result of inquiries from people in areas near Sun Lakes, but not in Sun Lakes,” she continued. “They tell us they want to support theater arts closer to home rather than driving to Phoenix, Mesa, or Gilbert.”

If you have an interest in joining SLCT, visit the website at www.slctinfo.com for more information.

The ImproVables actin’ the fools

No Fooling, Tickets May Still Be Available for The ImproVables’ April Fools’ Day Show

As of press time, there were still a few tickets left for the April 14 performance by The ImproVables in the Oakwood ballroom. The “Taco Tuesday” menu is sure to please, as will the zany antics of Sun Lakes Community Theatre’s comedic improv troupe. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner is at 5:30 p.m., and the show begins at 6:30 p.m. A drink special of $5 margaritas is also available.

Each show is different, because the audience plays a big part in suggesting settings, relationships, scenarios, etc., for many of the improv skits, or “games,” as the group calls them. Everything The ImproVables do is off the top of their heads, with no scripts. The performers have no idea which games they will be called upon to perform in. At times, audience members are asked to participate as well.

To purchase tickets for $30 each, visit www.slctinfo.com and click on the tickets above the flyer, or call 480-382-6290 for questions and/or assistance.

Third Annual Variety Show a Success

Sally Holberg

What a great show it was! A big thanks to Sun Lakes Country Club (Sunset Grill) for hosting the Third Annual Variety Show on March 7 and 8. There were 19 fabulous performances, including dancers, comedy skits, and instrumental and vocal songs, performed for a sold-out audience both nights. If you couldn’t make it this time, please join us next January when we will present an entirely new Variety Show.
