Merci Apodaca and granddaughter Nadia.
Betty Bogaard
The final meeting of the season for Agave Quilters was held on May 6 in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club.
Our featured speaker was the talented Merci Apodaca, who was assisted by her granddaughter Nadia. Merci shared a trunk show of her vibrant quilts and accessories, with each detailed piece accompanied by stories from her Mexican heritage. Her skill and vision truly transform ordinary patterns into something spectacular.
We would like to extend a special thank you to our outgoing president, Karen Pitts, for her two years of service. Our new president, Teri Jimerson, was officially installed by vice president Jean Hedberg.
Again this year, Agave members have made a significant impact on our community. To date, 509 quilts have been delivered to Valleywise Health Medical Center, a Chandler women’s shelter, the John Volken Academy rehab facility, and our military veterans. We are also pleased to announce that we have again partnered with the Arizona Patriot Guard Riders to deliver quilts to veterans during the holiday season.
While our general meetings are on hiatus, many of our friendship and specialty groups will continue to meet throughout the summer in the Sewing Room at the Oakwood Country Club Arts and Crafts building.
Agave Quilters meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month from September through May at 1 p.m in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E Sun Lakes Blvd., in Sun Lakes.
