Blue Star Moms are mothers, stepmothers, grandmothers, foster mothers, and female legal guardians who have children serving in the military, guard or reserves, or children who are veterans. Chapter AZ4 welcomes members from the greater Phoenix area.
This non-partisan, non-political, non-sectarian organization sends care packages to deployed troops and promotes patriotism. Members engage in volunteering, hospital work, and children’s welfare initiatives. “We enjoy participating in events and gift giving,” notes member Lauren Erickson. “It was especially gratifying to see the faces of one veteran’s young children when we delivered a full sized playhouse to their back yard.
Blue Star Mothers, with nearly 6,000 members from over 200 Chapters throughout the nation, was founded during World War II in 1941 to support women with children currently serving in the military. The Moms often hang a service flag with a blue star in their window to represent their child in service.
Blue Star Moms meet the third Thursday of the month, at 6:30 p.m., September through June in Litchfield Park. For more information on the organization, email:bsmswvalley@outlook.com
