Sneha Ganesh, a recent graduate of Hamilton High School, was selected to receive a $2,500 Scholarship from the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood. She was recommended by P.E.O. Chapter CY, which has been a part of the Sun Lakes community since 1985.
The competitive STAR Scholarship is for women who exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and potential for future success. It was established in 2009 to provide scholarships for exceptional women in their final year of high school to attend an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the U.S. or Canada in the next academic year.
In addition to an outstanding academic record, Sneha has made numerous contributions as a leader and volunteer, spearheading a successful program for addressing athlete mental health and well-being by establishing an on-going club to support athletes across all sports in her school. She is now working on an app to support this Winning Mindset effort. In addition, she established a structured transition program for including junior students in the National Honor Society at her school. Her participation in healthcare volunteer opportunities, a research internship and her ongoing success engaging others to supply sports equipment at a competitor Title 1 school has given her the motivation to study medicine at the University of California, San Diego.
P.E.O. has been helping women reach for the stars for more than 155 years. The nonprofit organization has provided more than 125,000 women with approximately $432 million in grants, scholarships, awards, and loans. Through membership, the P.E.O. Sisterhood has brought together women in the United States and Canada who are passionate about helping women advance through education while supporting and motivating them. In addition to the educational philanthropies, the P.E.O. Sisterhood provides a framework of support and community for all its members.
