Desert Artists Club News

Watercolor painting by member Kathy Tomasewski.

Sue Sindelar

It’s September already; children are back in school, summer is winding down, monsoon season is closing soon, and cooler weather is ahead. There’s so much to like here in the desert, especially the Desert Artists Club here in Sun Lakes. We have had a great turnout this summer and our members have created many wonderful pieces of art. What does Kathy’s painting evoke in you? Perhaps you see yourself walking along the shoreline or out in a boat, rowing gently along taking in the mountain view. It is fun and joyful to imagine yourself in the creations of other artists. We are an active group who meet year round every Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m. in the ceramics room (A-8) in Cottonwood. We are in the courtyard across from the library along the walkway. We come together to be with other artists and work (relax and play) on our own art projects. We bring our own supplies and work in our own medium, some of which are, oil, watercolor, acrylic, mixed media, pen and ink, or colored pencils. We are a casual club with no dues or regular meetings. We come to share our love of art and to be inspired by other artists of like mind. It is fun to create with others and anyone who lives in one of the three HOAs in Sun Lakes is able to join. We also have social times (potluck) on occasion and Share Your Art where we bring in some of our art to display for everyone’s enjoyment. It is always a fun and delicious time together.

The Cottonwood Open House is being held next month on Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon in our ballroom. Our DAC will have a table with art on display, information and members there to take questions. Come and see what our club has to offer. You are also invited to stop in any Tuesday to check us out and see if this art club is something you might be interested in joining. We have beginners and lifelong artists in our group and we are always willing to share our knowledge and artistic tips with each other. The best time to stop in is between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. You may also contact me with questions at: sue.sindelar@gmail.com.
