Welcome to our October fall-like weather and time to enjoy finally being outdoors again. Whether you are exploring areas of Arizona you haven’t seen yet or perhaps taking a trip to see Stonehenge, it feels wonderful to have made it through another summer here in the desert. Another wonderful opportunity is being in the Desert Artists Club of Sun Lakes where artists and ‘wannabe artists’ meet year round every Tuesday from 3 to 6 p.m. in the Ceramics room in Cottonwood. We come together to be with other artists as we create our own projects. We each bring our own supplies and work in our desired medium, some of which are acrylic, oil, watercolor, mixed media, pen and ink, and colored pencil. We are a casual club with no regular meetings or requirements and have no dues. This club has been together for well over two decades. The secret to our success could be that we enjoy being together, sharing our love of art, sometimes learning new techniques and sharing ideas. Artists who live in any of our three HOAs of Sun Lakes are eligible to join. We occasionally have potluck type gatherings and ‘Share Your Art’ times where we can bring several of our art pieces and display them. It is truly a fun time and we enjoy seeing other artists work. It is so inspiring and encouraging. We are also grateful that we have a club right here in our community and don’t have to drive far distances to experience the joy of learning and sharing together.
October is the month that Cottonwood CC has its Community Open House. Clubs and groups have a table and anyone can come and see what Cottonwood has to offer residents of Sun Lakes. The DAC is always represented so come and stop by and see some of our art on display and meet some of our artists. The date and time is: Saturday, Oct. 3 from 9 a.m. to noon. The location is in the Ballroom in Cottonwood.
If you are new to Sun Lakes or wish to know more about our club, feel free to stop in on any Tuesday afternoon in the Ceramics Room A-8. We are across from the library in the courtyard. The best time is between 3:30 and 4:30 p.m. Feel free to ask questions and see if this might be a fit for you. You may also contact me, Sue Sindelar at: sue.sindelar@gmail.com.
