The Gila Butte Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is honored to host the Arizona State Regent, Katie Paulsen, for our Thanksgiving Luncheon. The newly-elected State Regent began her administration with the “Prelude Summer Workshop” in Tucson, which was attended by chapter members. At the luncheon State Regent Paulsen will speak about her vision and goals for all the Arizona DAR chapters in the coming two years. The luncheon will be at Oakwood Country Club on Nov. 18 with traditional Thanksgiving dinner fare.

On Nov. 19, chapter members will be at ARC to pack goody boxes for our Arizona National Guard deployed overseas.

The Gila Butte Chapter had a very full October. We started the month with members attending the first Open House in Sun Lakes on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Cottonwood Country Club. Members attended the next two Open Houses on Saturday Oct. 10 and 17 at Oakwood C.C. and Sun Lakes Country Club. At our Oct. 21 general meeting, Clissene Lewis from the Fort McDowell Yavapai Reservation gave a most educational and entertaining talk on the history and life on the Yavapai Reservation. Chapter members attended returning Honor Flights at Sky Harbor Airport on Oct. 8 and 22 to welcome home returning Honor Flight veterans and thank them for their service to our country.

On Oct. 23, chapter members attended the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame Ceremony and luncheon and then on Oct. 25, members co-hosted a cook-out with the Jewish War Veterans Post 619 at the new U.S. Vets Residence in Phoenix.

Yes, it was a busy month but also very rewarding. We encourage any woman, age 18 and older to join us in recognizing and serving those in our communities. Daughters of the American Revolution is a wide and diverse organization of women, promoting the three DAR tenets of historical preservation, education and patriotism. If you are interested in the genealogy of your family and serving your community, please reach out. We can help you find your direct lineage to a revolutionary soldier.

From the members of the Gila Butte Chapter DAR we wish everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends.
