Jewish War Veterans Copper State Post 619 is honored to welcome Patricia Hinds, President of the Arizona Department of Gold Star Mothers, as its speaker Sunday, Nov. 22. The meeting takes place in the Oakwood Country Club Ballroom, 24218 S. Oakwood Blvd in Sun Lakes. A “Meet and Greet,” with free lox and bagels, coffee, and doughnuts starts at 9:30 a.m. The speaker follows at 10 a.m.
Finding strength in fellowship, Gold Star Mothers keep the memory of their United States Armed Forces fallen sons and daughters alive by serving veterans, active-duty service members, their families, and communities. Locally, members coordinate veteran assistance, hospital volunteering and community remembrance events around the Phoenix area. Members offer each other mutual support and friendship while supporting military and veteran groups across the country.
Patricia Hinds leads the AZ Dept of Gold Star Mothers with compassion, patriotism and a commitment of honoring the legacy of fallen heroes. Patricia is the proud mother of Lance Corporal Justin Hinds, a United States Marine who was actively serving at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, when he passed away on May 4, 2019. His memory lives on in his three sons—Jace, Emmitt, and Micah—and in the hearts of all who knew him.
After Justin’s passing, Patricia found strength and community in American Gold Star Mothers, Inc., a nonprofit organization of mothers who have lost children who were serving in U.S. military service. Before that, she was a member of Blue Star Mothers of America, supporting families of active-duty service members. Patricia shares her journey to help others find healing through service and remembrance. She continues to support veterans, military families, and fellow mothers through advocacy, outreach, and love.
The Arizona Chapter celebrates their former president, Tammy Pulaski, who was installed as the National Service Officer, serving on the National Executive Board for the first time.
Gold Star Mothers was founded by Grace Darling Seibold. Realizing that self-contained grief can be destructive, Grace devoted her energy to hospital work and reaching out to other mothers who had lost children in military service. Her efforts led to the formation of the American Gold Star Mothers in 1918.
Wearing white is a time-honored tradition for Gold Star Mothers. It honors their children’s sacrifices while symbolizing hope and light ahead.
