Steve Engelhardt
For the last four years it has been the pleasure of the Club to come into the Oakwood Country Club House and set up some of our trains outside of Stone and Barrel for Christmas. Once again this year, we will set up the trains on Friday, Dec. 11 and begin running them that evening for dinner. We will have the layout open and trains running daily from 11 a.m. to 1:20 p.m. and 5 to 7:30 p.m. daily until Wednesday, Dec. 23 when we will tear the layout down after lunch.
In past articles I have featured some of the great modeling this club does. Our modeling was recently recognized in a national model railroading broadcast. Come see some great examples of our skills.
Many residents of this community have fond memories of their childhoods which featured model train set ups near the Christmas Tree and sitting on the floor playing with trains, erector sets, Lincoln Logs, Legos, or even chemistry, wood burning or leather craft sets. Gee, it seems like instead of phones and video games all of us “boomers” were stuck dealing with things that let us use our hands and imaginations. So, bring your imagination and come see the trains run. And yes, we are always glad to hear how your grandpa fought blizzards as an engineer on the Union Pacific across Nebraska.
Please remember we are always welcoming new members of any model scale and ability. We meet as a club monthly in Oakwood and also have lunch every Friday to enjoy each other’s company. For more information, call me, Steve Engelhardt, at 602–320–9315.
