The Arizona Veterans StandDown Alliance which is coordinated by the Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness serves homeless and in need veterans. It is a tax credit organization with donations able to be subtracted from your state taxes at the end of year. It is also a tax deduction on your federal taxes, so you gain both ways. You may make donations monthly or at any time during the year and subtract at the end of the year of up to $400 for a couple or $200 for a single or filing separately. You may take this tax credit in addition to the school tax credit. Send donations to AZCEH and mark StandDown in the memo column 141 E. Palm Lane, Suite 105, Phoenix, AZ 85004. For more information contact Art Sloane at 480-802-6810 or [email protected].
I keep hearing I am not a veteran from persons who served in the Armed Forces of the United States. A veteran is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to “The United States of America” for up to and including his or her life. If you don’t stand behind our military personnel, then feel free to stand in front of them. In short you are a veteran if you served one day over 90 days of training.
The Community Resource and Referral Center of VA which helps homeless veterans is located at 230 South 12th Ave in Phoenix is in need of many items such as new underwear, socks and all types of men’s and women’s clothing. They are also in need of personal hygiene items for both men and women. They would also like gift cards for veteran clients. For more information on contributions call 480-399-4467. Also as the summer is upon us water is always needed.
