Mid-October was the first time in the new season for IronOaks Tennis Club to invite all of the local clubs to join us for a day of fun tennis and great food. There were many advance threats of rain but we refused to let that dampen our enthusiasm. The social gathering was going to take place, rain or shine. However, it turned out to be a great day, both weather-wise and fun-wise.
More than 100 tennis players from the Sun Lakes area joined in. Tennis play ran from 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Breakfast and lunch were provided, along with lots of food throughout the day. Event coordinators Carmella and Mike Davin and Tom and Sue Tschetter set up a Halloween theme and their decorations added a lot to the festivities. Many additional IronOaks Tennis Club members pitched in, providing the side dishes, salads and desserts.
As an added feature, Olena Buxton coordinated a tennis and golf clothes sale with gently used items supplied by other club members. It’s always a win when you can exchange unneeded outfits and freshen your wardrobe. Several hundred items exchanged hands.
Mark your calendars for our next big social event on January 2. We will welcome in the New Year with a community tennis and potluck event.
