October was a short month for golf. Both courses were closed for overseeding for three weeks. The first course to reopen was Palo Verde Country Club on October 31. On that day we had a joint Scramble Tournament with Cottonwood for Beat the Pros/Superintendents. There were only four teams comprised of both clubs that did not beat the Pros/Superintendents. We had a full field with two foursomes on each hole. We all got together afterward and congratulated the winners and commiserated with the losers.
On November 7, with Cottonwood also open again, PVMGA played a One Gross plus One Net format and the winning team with a 112 consisted of Bud Murray, Bob Merna, Rick Onkin and Bob Keltz. We had a full schedule throughout November.
Our December schedule will also be full starting on December 5 with a Two Man Alternate Shot format, flighted in the morning. We will not have an afternoon play as our annual Christmas Dinner Dance is that evening starting a 5:00 p.m.
On December 26 we are playing in the morning and afternoon a Designated Driver Two Best Balls Net format and yes, we’re playing that day to try out those new clubs we got the day before.
We would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Again, if you would like to join the PVMGA and enjoy our fun and fellowship, please call our Pro Shop and speak to one of our club professionals at 480-895-0300.
