The regular monthly Shabbat service for January will be held on Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. where new members of the board of directors will be recognized and retiring members will be thanked for their service. It should be noted that at the December service, Hanukkah candles were lit and Rabbi Irwin Wiener was praised for his 21 years as the spiritual leader of SLJC.

Full services are conducted each month starting in October, except for July and August, on the second Friday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Sun Lakes Chapel. For additional information or to have your questions answered about SLJC services, call 480-612-4413.

The SLJC Adult Education Committee will hold its next event on Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Sun Lakes Chapel starting at 2 p.m. Religious leaders including Rev. Mitch McDonald of Sun Lakes Community Church, Rev. Dr. Nathan Bowman of Sun Lakes Lutheran Church, Rev. Derrick Elliott of Sun Lakes Church of Christ, Rabbi Irwin Wiener of Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, Pastor Stephen Foss of First Baptist Church of Sun Lakes, Father Wilfred Yinah of St. Steven’s Roman Catholic Church, and Rev. Marvin Arnpriester of United Methodist Church of Sun Lakes will be addressing “The Declining Affiliation and Attendance Rates in Traditional Houses of Worship.” All members of the community are invited, and the forum is free.
