November CMGA Activities

On Nov. 4 the last Ace of Aces Qualifier was played. The low gross and low net scores qualified for the Ace of Aces tournament being played in December.

On Nov. 11 a Pick Your Partner team event was played with a 1 Net team score format. It was flighted by the total handicap of the teams.

Flight A: Winners: Tom Zentmeyer and Ron Resop, Second Place: Thomas Bersano and Timothy Mandt

Flight B: Winners: (tie) Don Vock and Roger Jenson/Ron Sarnicki and Terry Olson

Flight C: Winners (tie): Keith Peterson and Michael Kopacz/Pat Hawkins and Kevin Gillespie

Flight D: Winners: Ernest Soczka and Vic DeGrande, Second Place: James Kay and Ralph Casale

The annual Home and Home challenge with Sun Lakes Country Club was a two-day event played Nov. 16 and 18. Twenty-one teams from each club played a Match Play format with a team point for the winner of the front, back, and total. The first day’s play was at Sun Lakes Golf Course, and the home team held a 35.5 to 27.5 lead. The Cottonwood teams won the matches played at Cottonwood Golf Course by a 33 to 30 score, but the men from Sun Lakes Country Club won overall by a 65.5 to 60.5 margin.

On Nov. 25 the challenging Cross Country team Scramble was played. Eleven four-man teams played a 10-hole course set up by the Pro Shop. They included a hole that went from the second tee to the number 3 green. All of the teams had comparable handicap totals.

Second Place Team: Bob Tomsett, Bob Kaczmarek, Steve Pearson, Jim Kay

Third Place Team: Marty Oerter, Bill Moore, Vic DeGrande, Bill Bushbaum

December events included the 2023 Ace of Aces two-day tournament, a Home and Home competition with Leisure World Country Club, an ABCD Cha Cha Cha team event, an A&D team versus B&C team one net event, and a two-man match play final event for 2023.
