A Fresh Start: Finding Hope and Purpose in 2025

Rev. Jennifer Lambert

As we turn the calendar to a new year, many of us feel a sense of renewal—a chance to reflect, dream, and set intentions for the months ahead. Whether you call them resolutions or simply hopes, the start of a new year can inspire us to consider what it means to live with purpose, connect with others, and find joy in our daily lives.

At Sun Lakes United Methodist Church, we believe the journey toward hope and purpose begins by cultivating a community where everyone belongs. As the psalmist reminds us, “God sets the lonely in families” (Psalm 68:6), and we strive to be that family of faith where connection and care abound. Life can feel isolating, especially for retirees far from loved ones or familiar surroundings. But you don’t have to navigate these transitions alone. We’re here to offer opportunities to connect, grow, and thrive in body, mind, and spirit.

This January, there are many ways to get involved and embrace a fresh start:

• Strengthen Your Body: Start the new year with wellness at the forefront by joining one of our fitness opportunities. Yoga and strength training classes are offered weekly, blending movement and mindfulness in a supportive environment. After all, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit?” (1 Corinthians 6:19).

• Engage Your Mind: Have you ever wanted to brush up on your Spanish or learn a new skill? Our new Conversational Spanish class is the perfect opportunity to challenge yourself while having fun with others. “The heart of the discerning acquires knowledge, for the ears of the wise seek it out” (Proverbs 18:15).

• Lift Your Spirit: Music has the power to inspire and unite, and we’re excited to host “Best of Broadway,” a live concert on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 3 p.m. Join us for an afternoon of song and fellowship that’s sure to leave your heart singing. As Psalm 100 invites us, “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!”

Whatever your goals or dreams for the new year, consider making 2025 the year you prioritize connection. Whether it’s through fitness, music, learning, or worship, the gift of community enriches us all.

At Sun Lakes UMC, we are committed to walking this journey with you. As Scripture reminds us, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5). Let’s step boldly into this new season together, finding hope and purpose in the everyday moments that shape our lives.
