The annual scholarship fundraiser held by AAUW Southeast Valley on March 21, exceeded expectations! Almost two hundred people attended and were treated to delicious appetizers while enjoying acoustic guitar selections masterfully played by local musician Joe Lombardi.
The speakers, Dr. Carissa Lynch, dean of students at San Marcos Elementary School and Maddy Rohm, Arizona Science Center along with an impressive slide presentation made an impactful statement about the importance of our work and how the annual fundraiser supports that work.
The beautiful raffle baskets and impressive silent auction items along with proceeds from a first time “wine pull” brought in close to $15,000 that will be awarded as scholarships later this year to deserving women attending Chandler Gilbert Community College (CGCC) and allow girls who couldn’t otherwise attend to participate in STEM programs at the Arizona Science Center.
Big thanks to all who attended to support STEM education for girls and women! If you know a woman planning to attend Chandler Gilbert Community College in the fall who is focused on STEM and would benefit from a scholarship, more information and an application can be obtained by contacting the AAUW Southeast Valley Branch at AAUW.SEV.AZ@gmail.com.
