The Southeast Valley Branch of American Association of University Women (AAUW) launched a very successful spring fundraiser for local women needing scholarships this coming year to attend Chandler/Gilbert Community College. Proceeds exceeded a record $4,600 to be distributed to selected qualified young women.
The effort included financial donations from members, a raffle for 14 donated prizes, and culminated at JudyWear Boutique on April 24, whose owner donated 10% of proceeds that day for this important initiative. Many area residents were generous in their donations at Oakwood, Ironwood, and JudyWear. Donations were also received by mail.
Winning tickets were drawn on April 24, and 14 prize winners were notified. Donated goods and services included themed baskets full of party, kitchen, pandemic blaster, fur baby, and coffee items; a golf buddy pull cart; gift certificates to Pure Vanity Spa; a JudyWear gift certificate and beauty basket; a water park pass; jewelry; and a Chandler getaway package for two, donated by San Marcos Hotel and San Tan Brewery, for a one-night stay and dinner.
One lucky winner received the $100 VISA card, and the grand prize was won by Helen Semple, along with two friends, for an evening of pampering at SkinLab in Gilbert (a value of $1,000!).
AAUW supports equity for women and girls in society, and we are privileged to have the chance each year to help local scholarship winners pursue their dreams of college and a career.
