Fourteen Sun Lakes Aero Club members (SLAC) and guests participated in one of the more successful fly-ins in recent years on January 16 when five airplanes converged on the Marana airport for breakfast.

The group was joined by Jessica Cox, an honorary SLAC member and former speaker at one of the group’s monthly gatherings. Cox, the first armless woman to earn a pilot’s license, drove from her home near Tucson.

Pilots, their planes and passengers were Steve Perkins, Piper Lance, Gene Evans, Earl Cuyler, Louis Cuyler and Hank Bielema; Dick Simmons, Cessna 172, Gary West; Bill Brown, Cessna 182, Bob DeLong, J. R. Scheidereiter; Doug Whitaker, Cessna 182, Roger Bartels; and Gary Vacin, Grumman AA-1B.

Now in its 19th year, SLAC has monthly gatherings from November to April featuring interesting speakers on many aspects of aviation. The group also sponsors monthly breakfast fly-ins and field trips to nearby aviation-related facilities.

More information on SLAC is available from Bob Walch at 895-8869 or Gary Vacin at 298-7017 or at the group’s website, www.sunLakesAeroCub.org.
