Agave Quilt Guild

Mary La Tourelle

The Agave Quilt Guild held their annual holiday luncheon on Dec. 4 at the Palo Verde clubhouse, with 50 members in attendance. Skillfully planned and executed by members Faith Bragg and Georgia Hartman, this year’s theme was “Winter Party.” Georgia donated 60 teacup pincushions, which she made from her family’s three-generation collection of bone China teacups. Her husband was delighted. She also put together nine teapot centerpieces, which were taken home by one person at each table who guessed the closest to the correct number of tiny spools in a jar. Those drawing lucky raffle tickets were awarded a teapot with a $25 Mulqueen gift certificate. One grand prize winner received a $50 Mulqueen gift certificate.

In mid-November several members of our club delivered 85 quilts plus pillowcases and burp cloths to Valleywise Hospital.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, Jan. 1, at 1 p.m. Yes, you read that right. Members voted to meet on New Year’s Day rather than postpone a week. We will play Quilt Bingo, with cash prizes for winners. Come join us if you don’t want to watch football. Cookies and coffee will be served. We will also be offering items left over from the November Boutique at steep discounts, so bring your wallets and prepare to shop. As a reminder, we meet in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club (25601 S. Sun Lakes Blvd.) from September through May, always on the first Wednesday of the month.

Mark your calendars for QuiltCon on Feb. 20-23 at the Phoenix Convention Center. Sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild, this is the largest modern quilting event in the world, with attendees coming from around the globe.
