The Agavé Quilters Guild met for our annual holiday party on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at the Palo Verde Country Club. The festive event was well attended by guild members and featured a wonderful meal and numerous raffle/door prizes. Guild member Pat Johnson made folded star ornaments for each attendee to take home! Many thanks to Lois Hammer, Jan Vickery, Sally Walby, Sandi Martin, and the team for making this event a huge success!

In November, the Agavé Board collaborated with Neighbors Who Care (NWC) to make placemats for Sun Lakes residents who will be alone this Christmas. NWC will deliver gift bags as they make their holiday visits.

Agavé Guild member Jean Hedberg offered an opportunity for our members to support two Sacaton Community organizations. The guild was able to donate 43 quilts to long-term memory care and Hospice residents at Caring House. Fifty quilts were also donated to On Eagle’s Wings home, which cares for children and adult victims of domestic violence.

Our next Agavé Guild meeting will be on Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m. at Sun Lakes HOA1, in the Navajo Room. Join us as Bonnie Bobman of Scottsdale will be here to tell us about “Improvisational Piecing.” On Feb. 2, Swan Amity Sheridan from Tucson will share her lecture entitled, “Quilt the World.”

Our guild is open to new members of all skill levels. General meetings are held September through May on the first Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. in the Navajo Room, at Sun Lakes Country Club. Each meeting features a guest speaker, a brief business update from the board members, and a “show and tell” session allowing members to share their projects with the group. Additionally, upcoming classes are announced and available for sign-up at the general meeting. Classes are open to Agavé members only—join the guild now to take advantage of the upcoming classes! Dues for the calendar year are $30 with a one-time $13.25 purchase of a name badge.
