As most are aware, the Anglers sponsor about 13 fishing derbies a year. All but the Grandparents Derby is for children from surrounding grade schools where many of the children don’t have the advantages that many enjoy. The club furnishes all the equipment needed to catch fish and instruction. In addition we stock the lake and feed the fish to assure good fishing. This requires not only the club sponsoring the Flea Market at Sun Lakes Country Club on the third Saturday of the month to help raise money but generous donations from organizations and individuals.
The Anglers Club receives financial assistance from the following organizations; the Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club, the Sun Lakes Lions Foundation, the Sun Lakes VFW and the Sun Lakes Women’s Association. In addition to financial help, the members of these organizations also lend a hand in helping the kids fish. The Sun Lakes firefighters also help out with the fishing when their schedule permits. There can be up to 30 youngsters at a derby. The Anglers sincerely appreciate the help of all you generous support.
As I mentioned, we sponsor the Flea Market in the SLCC parking lot on the third Saturday of the month. The official hours are 6:00-10:00 a.m. If you would like to have a vendor’s spot stop by the SLCC desk and signup. The fee is $5. The Anglers offerings come from donations. Don Herring is available to arrange drop off or pick up by calling 480-802-9320. Small items are great but clothes don’t do well.
