Attention “Grandparents” – the annual Anglers Grandparents Fishing Derby is scheduled for March 31. Spend a morning with your grandchildren fishing in Lake 6. This is an experience they will never forget, and you won’t either.
Each child gets to choose a small item from our gift box, such as a yo-yo, play dough, colored markers, ball, toy car, etc. The Anglers Club provides each child with a fishing pole and a bag of bait (pieces of hot dog). An Anglers Club member or volunteer will then go with you to find a spot on the lake to fish and help bait the hook and cast it into the lake. The degree of help is dependent upon the child’s and grandparent’s fishing experience.
Prizes are given to the first fish caught, the largest fish caught, the most fish caught and to any other worthy participant selected by the club. The club restocked the lake in November with over 300 1.5-pound catfish. The lake already contained many large, over three-pound catfish. We expect the fishing to be very good and to see many happy smiles on the grandchildren’s faces.
Plan to be at Lake 6 by 9:00 a.m. on March 31. The derby ends at 11:00 a.m., and the prizes are then awarded. The Anglers Club will provide bottled water for the event.
The club has four fishing derbies scheduled for area school children on February 28 and March 1, 8 and 13.
