Annual Bradshaw Tournament attracts 150 participants

The Bradshaw Tennis Tournament is the largest tennis gathering of the year and includes entrants from Sun Lakes 1, Cottonwood Palo Verde, Ironwood, Oakwood, SunBird and Springfield. This year, there were 150 participants competing in Men’s and Women’s Doubles.

New elements were added, including Fast Serve and Placement competitions. An exhibition match was played featuring Nik Tomassian, grandson of Ken Bradshaw, after whom the tournament was named. Nik played with his mother Bryanna against Rae and Bob Lewis. The Lewises won. Three of Ken and Marsha Bradshaw’s children attended the tournament: Bryanna, Doug and Alan. Another son Bob was not able to attend.

The Fast Serve competition for men was won by Armin Flachsmann at 90 mph. The lady’s winner was Martine Blue at 60 mph. The Placement competition for men was won by Maurice Allen with 3 inches. The women’s winner was Rae Lewis with 40 inches.

Tournament Directors Al Wagner and Keith Nelson were pleased with both the outcomes and the numbers of people attending the matches. On Saturday, 230 lunches were served to participants and their spouses. Other members of the Steering Committee were Susan Aparicio, Bob Walk, Bert Hustad, Armin Flachsmann, Steve Norvet, Edith Tanniru, Kathy Klotz and Dave Butler.
