In January the Scandinavian Club of South East Valley hosted exchange students from Scandinavia. It is always an evening of interest for all who attend as we listen to the experience of young people attending school in our country. They also shared some of the differences of education and culture between their countries and ours. The meeting was well attended with people from Sunbird among those in attendance.

The club members will celebrate their heritage at the dinner meeting on Sunday, February 21 in the Arizona Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. This is a wonderful opportunity for those of Scandinavian heritage to share their treasured artifacts. Photos are always a popular item. If you have some from your trips to Scandinavia please consider sharing them with us. Tables will be set aside on which they can be displayed. Be sure to properly tag your artifacts/photos, etc. so they can be easily identified. A number of Danish plates have been donated to the club. They will be available for purchase at the February meeting.

Our speaker for the evening will be Mr. Svein Jenshus, a native of Norway. After immigrating to the United States he had a successful career in the Seattle area. He has authored a book and describes himself as a stand-up comedian and somewhat an expert on Viking history, as well as the Stone Age in Scandinavia and Europe. Svein now resides in Sun Lakes with his wife Liv. We look forward to his sharing his experience as an immigrant and how he came to leave his homeland. Of interest as well will be his experience in the United States.

We always look forward to dinner as we celebrate our heritage, but we first begin the evening with a social hour at 5:00 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6:00 p.m. At 7:00 p.m. Mr. Jenshus will address the club. Our all-inclusive dinner (that includes coffee and tip) is $15 for members who have paid the annual dues of $15. Dinner for non-members and guests is $20. Reservations for dinner must be made no later than Monday, February 15. Reservations may be made at our website at scanclubsev.weebly.com.
