Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes to Headline August 10 Sun Lakes Democratic Club Meeting

Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes will be the featured guest speaker at the Sun Lakes Democratic Club (SLDC) meeting on Monday, Aug. 10, as the state prepares for the Nov. 3, General Election.

The meeting begins with a social gathering at 6:30 p.m., followed by the program at 7 p.m. in the Navajo Room at the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., Sun Lakes.

As Arizona’s Chief Elections Officer, Fontes will discuss how the state’s November elections will be administered and the measures in place to ensure fair, secure, and accessible elections for all Arizonans. A native of Nogales, Fontes previously served as Maricopa County Recorder after first being elected in 2016. He is a former U.S. Marine and attorney who now oversees elections statewide as Secretary of State.

The meeting will also feature several candidates who will appear on the November ballot, providing attendees with an opportunity to hear directly from those seeking statewide and legislative office including:

* Nick Mansour, the Democratic candidate for Arizona State Treasurer will discuss his vision for managing the state’s more than $33 billion in public funds and the Permanent Land Endowment Trust Fund. Mansour brings experience as a Stanford University MBA graduate and business CEO.

* Kristie O’Brien, candidate for the Arizona Senate from Legislative District 13.

* Dr. Racquel “Rockee” Armstrong and Jacob Weinberg, candidates for the Arizona House of Representatives from Legislative District 13.

Additional candidates may also attend and be introduced during the meeting.

The Sun Lakes Democratic Club represents more than 2,500 registered Democrats in the Sun Lakes community and advocates for policies that promote a thriving, inclusive Arizona. The club welcomes residents interested in learning more about issues affecting Arizona and meeting candidates seeking public office.

SLDC members are also invited to attend the club’s First Friday Coffee, held at 10 a.m. on the first Friday of each month at Denny’s, 4977 S. Arizona Ave. in Chandler. The informal gathering offers members and guests an opportunity to connect and discuss current events and public policy in a relaxed setting.

The club also supports Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations may be dropped off at the August meeting or made online. Contributors can receive a receipt for eligible Arizona dollar-for-dollar tax credit donations.
