Art and Fine Crafts Show

Mark your calendar! The SunBird Art Club’s annual Art and Fine Crafts Show is almost here. The 2026 event will take place on Saturday, March 21, in the SunBird ballroom from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come and see SunBird artists, as well as artists from the local area. Artists will be displaying paintings in a variety of mediums, including acrylic, watercolor, oil, pencil and charcoal, digital media, and multimedia. There will be pottery and sculpture, as well as a variety of jewelry artists, displaying their original, handmade works. This year we will add a textile artist who creates one-of-a-kind garments. All artwork is original and is juried for quality of work to participate in the show.

There are a few tables still available for the show. Contact sunbirdartclub1@gmail.com for an application or information. You will need to submit three or four pictures of your work to be juried. This is an indoor event, with provided tables and tablecloths. You may also bring other display items for your work as long as they fit within the 10×10- or 10×20-foot space.

Don’t forget to get your raffle tickets during the show for a chance to win one of several original artworks donated by the artists. Tickets are $1 each or 8 tickets for $5 and 20 tickets for $10. The drawing will take place at 1:30 p.m. You do not have to be present to win.

The Art Club displayed the artwork from the annual Artist Challenge during February. Each year a theme is chosen, and artists submit work of their choosing to match the theme. This year’s theme was “Old Masters,” and submissions included Van Gogh, Michelangelo, Toulouse-Lautrec, Monet, Serat, Vermeer, and Modigliani. There was a large variety of submissions, with Van Gogh being the most popular subject.

The Art Club holds workshops and classes during the year. Brenda Lofreddo presented a workshop on Chain Painting in January. John Price taught a class on Perspective in February. There will be an upcoming trip to Scottsdale to visit the annual Festival of Fine Arts. A group Still Life activity is planned for late February or March. We will set up a Still Life for everyone to paint in their chosen medium and style. Results will be displayed in the Art Club showcase in the clubhouse.
