The Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s next meeting is Monday, August 11 at 7:00 p.m. in the Navajo Room of the Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 N. Sun Lakes Blvd.
Our speakers for the evening will be David Garcia, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction and Karen Peters from Moms Demand Action.
Dr. David Garcia is an Arizona native who attended Mesa Public Schools. As a former Associate Superintendent of Public Instruction for Standards and Accountability, he is widely regarded as a national expert on education policy and research. He currently teaches future education leaders at Arizona State University. David has said that as our next Superintendent of Public Instruction, “I will be accountable to all of our stakeholders, and will welcome their input and willingly discuss how we can work together for the future of Arizona’s public schools and the future of our economy.”
Karen Peters will speak for Moms Demand Action. Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America was created to demand action from state and federal legislators, companies and educational institutions to establish common-sense gun reforms. The organization was established on December 15, 2012 in response to the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
At all club meetings, we collect non-perishable food items for the Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Collections take place in the west parking lot from 6:30-7:00 p.m. There is also a box at the north entrance of the Sun Lakes Sunset Grill lobby. Thanks to your generosity we have collected over 1,166 lbs. of food and $135 so far this year.
Everyone is welcome at our club meetings which are always on the second Monday of each month. Refreshments are served.
