Do you love singin’ in the shower? It may be time to take the plunge beyond the shower into singin’ with the Chordaires Show Chorus of Sun Lakes (Chordaires). But how do you overcome the fear of public singing? The Chordaires offers a way to overcome that fear by providing an opportunity to sing with others in a low-key, low-pressure rehearsal setting. The support the Chordaires provide includes:
• A website at chordaires.org with printable music and recorded learning tracks for all singing parts;
• Optional weekly sectionals for each part (tenor, lead, baritone, and bass), guided by an experienced Chordaires member; and
• Weekly rehearsals with Assistant Director Libby Bender and Co- Directors Barb and Kirk Hyder who have many years of vocal expertise that they readily share.
The newest Chordaires members, Lynn Semrud (tenor), Connie Brown (lead), and Kathy Churchill (baritone), took the plunge to sing with the Chordaires in October. Both Lynn and Kathy are experienced singers with many years under their belts. However, Connie Brown, who is newer to singing, has some words of wisdom to share: “When I signed up with the Chordaires, I was a little hesitant. In fact, it took me five years to take the leap. I love to sing, and this group provides a structured way to express my passion. I am basically shy and don’t generally sing around people I don’t know, but in this setting, I am not alone. There is so much support that I feel comfortable. I don’t read music but have the ability to hear and follow the songs. It also helps to have individuals around me to help me follow and hit the pitch. The group is very warm, welcoming, and easy-going, which makes you feel at home and relaxed.”
There is still time to join the Chordaires in January and sing in our spring show titled “On the Air: Harmony Showcase” on Saturday, March 28, at 2 p.m. at Sun Lakes United Methodist Church. If you have an interest in singing with a fun group of women, come to a rehearsal. The Chordaires rehearse every Thursday in the Mirror Room at Sun Lakes Country Club from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. We look forward to meeting you!
