Are you are a beginner to intermediate bridge player who would like to brush up on your play in a relaxed, noncompetitive atmosphere? Or have you played before but have gotten a little rusty and need to refresh your memory? In this group we discuss bidding and play options as we play out the hands. Table talk about the hands is expected. Winning is not as important as finding the right bid and the right way to play the hand.

Bring your crib sheet and favorite bridge instruction book for reference. Many of us will be using Audrey Grant’s books and bidding key. This is a study group not really a class. You do not need to come with a partner. You do not need to call before you come. If we have an odd number of people, then some of us watch the play or give advice. We also rotate players so everyone has a chance. Learning is the important point in this group.

We meet on Friday morning from 10:00-11:30 a.m. in room A-3, the Men’s Card Room, in the Cottonwood Activities building. If you are interested in this group, please join us on Friday morning. Do bring a deck of cards and maybe some score sheets.

Fun da Mental Bridge class

Gordon, under his program of “Fun da Mental Bridge” has taught beginning bridge lessons to 315 Sun Lakers over the past seven years. Are you ready to learn bridge? If you would like a reference for this course, just ask your neighbors or friends as they may have taken lessons from Gordon.

Classes will be on Monday mornings, from 9:00-11:30 a.m. in the Friendship Room at Sun Lakes Country Club. They start on November 7, run for seven weeks, and finish on December 19. The topics include all of contemporary beginning bridge plus an overview of competitive bidding and an overview of basic conventions.

The cost is $70 for the seven weeks plus $7 each, for the texts.

Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge

The Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road. Open games are held on Monday at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at 1:30 p.m., and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. There also is a Novice teaching game on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. and Intermediate games Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. and (attendance permitting) Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to game time!

Please try the email first if you have access to a computer. Fees for the games are $6/person if you are a member of the club or $7/person if not a club member. Annual membership is $10.

The 0-99er Novice Group meets Thursday mornings with a review lesson at 8:15 a.m., partners suggested but not required – NEWCOMERS ARE WELCOME! The 0-199er Intermediate Group plays Tuesday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings at 9:00 a.m. if there is a lower section to play in; otherwise they play in the Open Games. Saturday morning 199’er games are not presently offered. All players are welcome to attend all Open Games. Everyone must check in no later than 15 minutes before the start of any game in order for Directors to seat you properly. You may be turned away if you arrive late.
