Sun Lakes 199ers Duplicate Bridge
Karin Hansen
The Thursday morning 99er group is continuing during the month of July, and new members are always invited and encouraged to attend. Please plan to arrive by 8:00 a.m. for a prompt start at 8:15 a.m. The cost is $6 for Sun Lakes Bridge Club members and $7 for all others. The group plays “assisted” duplicate bridge following ACBL rules with a director present to run the game. Instructors are available to answer individual questions about bidding and play during the session. This is a great way to help learn what the bids mean at the table while the bidding is taking place. Following the game, there is discussion on specific hands that may have been difficult to understand. The game ends by 11:00 a.m. ACBL master points can be earned by winning pairs who are registered ACBL members. Coordinator Anne Newman ([email protected]) can answer any questions about participating in the Thursday morning group. This fun and low-key atmosphere provides great learning and playing experience for all those interested in duplicate bridge. Partners are suggested but not required – newcomers are welcome! Games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 23914 S. Alma School Road, unless otherwise announced.
Tuesday and Thursday Non-Life Master Games:
The Sun Lakes Bridge Club offers a sanctioned non-Life Master game for intermediate and novice players with under 500 points on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1:30 p.m. at Risen Savior along with a regular open game. Partners are required for these games. It is suggested that you arrive 30 minutes prior to the game in order for directors to seat you properly. This is a great level of play and a comfortable game for those who don’t wish to play in the Open field of play against expert and advanced players. Top game for May in the 499ers was by Frank Recchia and Yogi Patel on May 8 with a 68.54% game. Congratulations to these players.

The Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club games are held at Risen Savior Lutheran Church (23914 S. Alma School Road).
Open games are held on Monday at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., Thursday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. There also is a Novice game Thursday at 8:30 a.m., Tuesday a 499’ers game at 1:30 p.m. (if there are enough entries in the field) and Saturday at 9:00 a.m. subject to having enough entries. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to game time!
If you are in need of a partner for any Open Games, please contact the Players’ Pairs Assistants Eileen Utter at [email protected] or phone 802-8300, Barbara Lubsen at 699-9649 or Carol Warner at 618-514-0566. Please try the email first if you have access to a computer. Fees for the game are $6.00/person if you are a member of the club or $7.00/person if not a club member.
When you are sitting out a round, it is NOT permitted to look at the boards at your table that you are skipping. A penalty may apply if you do so. Also, please keep discussions in between play to a minimum, as other players are trying to concentrate on their line of play and it is very distracting. Not only that, but you may be giving the players who are going to play the boards next some un-authorized information.
Also, please clean up after the game. It is not the director’s responsibility to clean up your messes. When leaving, check to make sure that there are no cups, Kleenex, wrappers or other material at the table. Also, take all the bridge supplies to the proper areas to be stored. Your help is appreciated.
