Please be considerate to the other players. If you are not feeling well, please stay home. If you have allergies or systematic coughs or congestion, please let the other players know that you do not have any transmittable health problems. We are all concerned with the current health concern and want to be very conscious of the problems associated with it.

Please use the link www.bridgewebs.com/sunlakes to alert the director that you and your partner are playing on any specific day. This should be done one to two days in advance. This will help the director get the proper seatings.

Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club 499ers

Karin Hansen, I/N Representative

Spring is sprung! The temperatures are rising! And bridge is still hot at Sun Lakes. There are games offered every week for players of all ability levels. All Sun Lakes duplicate games are played at Risen Savior Lutheran Church located at 23914 S. Alma School Road. Plan to arrive about 30 minutes prior to the game start time and no later than 15 minutes before game time. Each partnership should know the number of masterpoints held by themselves and their partner in order to help the directors stratify the game fairly. Cost to play in club games is $6 or $7 for those who have not joined the club. Dues for the club are $10/year. Any director at any game can provide you with the information to join the club. Club games are open to everyone, not just ACBL members. Each week on Thursday morning, there is a special teaching game for new players and those with less than 99 masterpoints. Director Maria Davis gives a short mini-lesson followed by regular play. Many times, the hands are set up by the computer to reinforce the lesson of the day. During the bidding, instructors are available to answer questions and assist with the bidding if there are any issues. The top finishers for the day receive some masterpoints. This group is a great place to start playing duplicate and to learn new tools and techniques. Partners are great, but you can come to this game without a partner, and the directors will try to match you up. This is a very friendly and casual game. For more information, contact Anne Newman at [email protected]. For those with some experience, there are other limited games available each week. On Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m., there is an ACBL-sanctioned game for those with under 499 masterpoints. This game is in conjunction with an open game. On Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m., there is a section for those with under 199 masterpoints. An open game is held at the same time. These games all require that you attend with a partner. Masterpoints are awarded for the top finishers.

For help in finding a partner, you may contact [email protected] and give them your information. Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club works hard to provide a comfortable and friendly game for all ability levels. In order to keep things clean, it is required that all beverages be in covered containers, and no food is allowed to be brought into the playing area. It is also a good reminder to stay home if you do not feel well. Pass the cards… not the germs!

February was a great month for many of our novice and intermediate players. Top game in the 99er group was on Feb. 6 when Melissa Denton and Peter Harrris had a score of 73.26%. Top game for a Saturday was by Kathy Garrett and Rita Myran with a game of 67.26%. The best game for a partnership on a Tuesday was on Tuesday, Feb. 4, when Steve Sapiro and Judy Lamers had a game of 66.88%. And on Thursday, Feb. 6, in the 499er game, Butch and Kathy Sorensen came in on top with a score of 67.75%. Congratulations to these players and all the others who participated in games at the Sun Lakes Bridge Club.
