Completing the Beginning Bridge class prepared 12 people to participate in the Sun Lakes Duplicate Bridge Club novice game, which is held on Thursday mornings. To ensure that the graduates progress smoothly to their next phase, each one is paired with a volunteer Buddy from the club. Donna Hofer directs the Buddy program.
Rose Gangel instructs the Beginner class. Her next class will be this fall (date unknown). For more info, she can be reached at 316-644-2166 or [email protected].
As the Beginning Bridge instructor, Rose has given a comment: “Each student has a different level of understanding of how to play cards, as well as what might be involved in playing bridge. What each student brings to the class that is common is an eagerness to learn. My hope is to give each student a good basis for playing bridge, whether as a social bridge player or a duplicate bridge player. Every day in the classroom is rewarding.”
As our Bridge Club novice coordinator, Maria Davis has made a comment on the novice group class: “We strive to make the transition from classroom to live game play as smooth as possible. There is a mini-lesson before each game, with hands to reinforce what the students learned. We provide bidding assistance during the game when needed and uniform simplified convention cards. Since a partner is not required for our game, this makes it easy for pairs who have never played together to get off to a quick start.”
