Living independently as long as possible is the goal of nearly every senior, and Sheryl Keeme, executive director of Neighbors Who Care, will be at the Sun Lakes Democratic Club’s (SLDC) April 14 meeting to share how their organization can help people do just that.

Neighbors Who Care is an organization that relies on volunteers to help seniors live independently, with services ranging from transportation, meal deliveries, home repairs, help with respite care, and, equally important, simply keeping in touch with the homebound. Keeme will discuss all these areas and how you might get involved to help our senior community or benefit yourself from their services.

The sharing will continue with an update from Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke on the State of Arizona’s fourth largest city that is just outside our gates. What impacts Chandler has impacts on Sun Lakes, from businesses to services, transportation to real estate. Attendees will hear about what is next as Chandler approaches being totally developed and the impact that will have on revenue sources and services.

In addition to any lingering legislative issues, SLDC members and guests will also hear from one of the Chandler Unified School District (CUSD) board members as the District struggles to care for students in the face of funding impacts and the new state budget.

SLDC is made up of like-minded individuals who are part of over 2,500 registered Democrats throughout the Sun Lakes area promoting an Arizona that works for everyone. We invite you to join us at 6:30 p.m. for a social hour, with the meeting starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club, 25601 E. Sun Lakes Blvd. N., Sun Lakes.

We also invite you to join us at 10 a.m. for our First Friday Coffee the first Friday of every month at Kneaders Bakery on West Queen Creek Road in Chandler.

We Support Matthew’s Crossing Food Bank. Donations can be dropped off at the meeting or made online at matthewscrossing.org. You can receive a receipt for the dollar-for-dollar, tax deductible donation.
