I am writing this the day after the Chicago Cubs wowed us all and won the 2016 World Series. What a series and what a championship game. After 108 years once again they are the champs. It made me start to think about how worthwhile it is to keep challenging ourselves to be the best we can be and to never give up. We can choose to be idle and let ourselves age or we can stay active and enjoy the aging process. One way to stay in good health is to exercise our brain and one enjoyable way to do that is to join New Adventures in Learning. Registration for the spring semester is about to start.
New Adventures is a lifelong learning program which is especially designed for older adults. Each semester offers a wide variety of classes. The spring semester, which will include more than 80 classes, begins the first week of February and runs through April. Topics include science and technology, home improvement and gardening, art and recreation and everything in between. Classes are presented by volunteer members or from the community at large. There are no grades, no homework and no pressure – just the opportunity to learn something new.
The classes are offered in a state of the art facility at the Chandler/Gilbert Community College located at the corner of Riggs Road and Alma School. The facility is conveniently located for area residents in Sun Lakes, Solera, SunBird and the surrounding area. Ample free parking is available. Classes are offered year round so snowbirds as well as year round residents can participate.
New Adventures began in 1998 and has grown to over 500 members. It is a not for profit organization and is supported by its members. Annual dues are $50 which allows members to register for as many classes as they wish. There is an additional $15 college registration fee for each semester a member is actively enrolled in classes.
So be a champ and join New Adventures in Learning. Get to know other seniors who also have a love for learning. To get more information please go to our website at www.newadventures.info. You can also call 480-857-5500 to request an information packet or stop by the school at 25105 South Alma School Road.
