Cheers is a social club open to members from Sun Lakes, Springfield, SunBird, and Solera communities. Our current 179 members invite you to become a part of the Cheers family, whether you are a year-round or a seasonal resident. The club offers many activities and programs, including social time, wine tasting, dining out, book club, games, golfing, and group travel opportunities.
With your $25 annual dues you will be provided access to the members-only website and calendar of activities. The Cheers weekly social meets on Thursdays at Sun Lakes Oakwood Country Club from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting is a forum for meeting new friends, visiting with current ones, and sharing club announcements and upcoming activities. Visitors and potential new members are welcome, without obligation to join. Weekly meetings are followed with opportunity for group dining at a local restaurant.
Below are some of our group activities:
Golf: Golf is in full swing, playing a variety of courses in Sun Lakes and nearby communities. Cheers members gather on Friday mornings and usually have room for additional players. Cheers Birthday Celebration: Cheers celebrates members’ birthdays every six months with dinner, a cash bar, entertainment, and a raffle for prizes. Our spring birthday celebration will be a Birthday Bingo Bash on April 12 at Oakwood Poolside. This fun evening will include a self-pay happy hour, party snacks, full dinner with dessert, door prizes, five games of bingo, and a 50/50 raffle. All Cheers members are welcome; however, advance registration with Shirley Sobotta and/or Ken Cassler at 480-540-3963 is requested. This will be a great evening of fun, food, and friends!
Hand and Foot: Hand and Foot has temporarily (hopefully) been suspended, as MaryAnn Fazio has stepped away from her duties as coordinator of this event. The Cheers members at large thank MaryAnn for her dedicated service over the past few years and appreciate her efforts in building this event into one looked forward to weekly by many. Cheers is seeking a volunteer to assume MaryAnn’s activities so that this event can continue. If interested, please contact Michael Swoverland at 480-907-4623.
Mexican Train: Join us for a fun game of Mexican Train every Sunday at 5:30 p.m. in the Cottonwood clubhouse Ladies Card Room (Room A-2) located behind the library.
