Cheers is a social club open to members from Sun Lakes, Springfield, SunBird, and Solera communities. Our current 158 members invite you to become a part of the Cheers family, whether you are a year-round or a seasonal resident. The club offers many activities and programs, including social time, wine tasting, dining out, book club, games, golfing, and group travel opportunities.
With your $25 annual dues you will be provided access to the members-only website and calendar of activities. The Cheers weekly social meets on Thursday, Sun Lakes Oakwood Country Club, 4 to 5:30 p.m. The meeting is a forum for meeting new friends, visiting with current ones, and sharing club announcements and upcoming activities. Visitors and potential new members are welcome, without obligation to join. Weekly meetings are followed with the opportunity for group dining at a local restaurant.
Below are some of our group activities:
Golf: Golf has been temporarily suspended for the summer due to things “heating up” on the course. Stay tuned for resumption of play in the Fall and, if interested in joining our group and/or receiving our group emails, feel free to contact Keith Mackenzie, 248-766-9520 or called603@gmail.com. This is a Cheers member’s only activity.
Cheers Birthday Celebration: Cheers celebrates member’s birthdays every six months with dinner, a cash bar, entertainment, and a raffle for prizes. The date for the July to December birthday celebration has been set for Oct. 18, and will be by popular demand a return of the Birthday Bingo Bash. Advance registration and fee will be announced at the weekly Cheers social weeks preceding the event. All Cheers members are welcome to participate, not just those celebrating a birthday.
Hand and Foot: Hand and Foot meets every Tuesday, 6 p.m., at Oakwood Poolside. Shirley Sobotta and Kenn Cassler lead this weekly event and would love to invite all returning and new players. If you do not know how to play, we will be happy to teach you. It’s not hard and a lot of fun!
Mexican Train: Join in for a fun game of Mexican Train, every Sunday, 5:30 to 9 p.m., Cottonwood Clubhouse, Ladies Card Room, Room A2 located behind the library. Marti Finsterwalder coordinates this evening and welcomes all! If you do not know how to play, we will teach you.
