Cheers Social Group Activities

Cheers Trip Opportunities: Several Cheers members went on the Free Spirit Mystery Tour where they stopped at several locations in Phoenix, including the Japanese Gardens. The popularity of the Mystery Tours has resulted in fewer and fewer attractions that can be reached within a single day. As a result, Free Spirit is putting together an Overnight Mystery Tour, which will allow visits to sites that are farther from Phoenix. In addition to interest in the Overnight Mystery Tour, the Bearizona Trip on March 23 generated a lot of interest. For those not interested in foreign travel, the Branson, Memphis, and Nashville Tour scheduled for Oct. 12-20 is appealing. Airfare is included in the eight-day, seven-night trip.

A representative of Premier Travel gave us an overview of their travel offers through Free Spirit Vacations on March 9. After the meeting, they met with those planning to travel to Greece this October. Anyone interested in the Athens and the Greek Islands Tour can still join.

Cheers travel itineraries are open to all, since we use licensed travel agents. For more information, call Richard Lewin at 609-332-3915 or Donna Clucky at Free Spirit Vacations at 480-926-4447, Ext. 2. More information can also be found at our website www.cheerssingles.org.

Monthly Wine Tasting: Once a month a member of our group opens their house for wine tasting. Lorene Roberts leads this monthly social time. For February, member Anne Brunick hosted the event where we tried new and exciting wines, followed by a potluck dinner. Depending on our host member’s ability to support the event, we have anywhere from 20 to 35 members join in this great socializing opportunity with friends and sample what may be new wines to some.

Cheers Golf Group: We golf all the courses of Sun Lakes, as well as surrounding public courses. The Cheers Golf Group has been busy enjoying Friday golf. We usually have two or three groups every week. We have been primarily playing at Sun Lakes Country Club, SunBird, and Bear Creek. Great turnouts for March golf. We had a couple golfers get a birdie: Ron Hudson and Joe Terian. Congratulations! After golf, we stop at the club’s lounge for social time to discuss the good, the bad, and the ugly of the round.

As this is a members-only activity, you will need to be a member of our Cheers Social Group. Please contact Keith Mackenzie, either at our weekly meeting at the Oakwood clubhouse in the Bradford Room or via email at [email protected].

Hamilton High School Donations: Our group works with a social worker at Hamilton High to help the poor and homeless who attend school. Some needed items are household items, and cash can always be used to purchase items currently in need. For those in need, it is very helpful, and our members are very generous. If you wish to donate, you may contact Sally Wegryn at 203-470-0733 for all currently needed items.
