Cheryl Thurston, a Sun Lakes resident and popular performer here, will be celebrating her birthday by entertaining with her Mardi Gras Jazz Band on Sunday, May 21, for the Arizona Classic Jazz Society’s monthly jazz party. Cheryl is currently the bandleader for Cheryl’s Mardi Gras Jazz Band, Cats & Jammers and Memories Dance Band.

New Orleans songs and music will be featured on the 21st, as well as a guest appearance by clarinetist Pieter Meijers from Los Angeles. Pieter is the leader of one of the most cherished Trad bands, High Sierra Jazz Band, and has spread his music around the world. He brings a great sense of humor to the stage as well as his brilliance on reeds.

Cost for Cheryl’s Birthday Celebration is $15 ACJS members; $20 non-members (become a member on the 21st and get in free; yearly membership $35 couple, single $25).
