Chordaires embrace new energy

Patrice Reis

“I am excited about the new energy and the new dynamics in our group,” announces Dr. Adam Thome, director of the Chordaires Show Chorus of Sun Lakes. “We have a lot of new members who bring a freshness to the Chordaires. I’m looking forward to how this manifests in our upcoming spring show, Sun Flakes Frivolity, now in the early production stage.”

“We had the chance to look at our script today and it is just delightful,” comments Chordaires President Patti Entwistle, “We’re so pleased it was created by one of our own members, Patrice Reis. The show is a witty and charming spoof of Sun Lakes living and will feature some local actors in our community, including Cottonwood Palo Verde’s famously talented Linda Caton.”

Known for their repertoire which includes well-known and loved songs from movies, theater and radio, the Chordaires are an all-woman a capella chorus who specialize in four-part harmony, also known as barbershop, a uniquely American form of singing. Now in their 35th year of entertaining in and around Sun Lakes, the Chordaires stay fresh by always welcoming new members.

“We meet Monday evenings from 5:00-7:30 p.m. in the Chapel Center at Sun Lakes Country Club (9240 North Sun Lakes Blvd.) with our entire chorus, then once a week for about an hour in sectional practices,” advises Performance Director Chris Roen. “We especially want to encourage experienced singers to join, but it’s not mandatory. We do want women who can carry a tune!

Now is the time to come if you want to participate in our spring show. If you’re interested please come to one of our rehearsals or find out more about us at www.chordairesshowchorus.com. If you’re interested in booking the Chordaires or the Ambassadors – the Chordaires’ mini-me version for smaller venues – please call me at 786-6969.”

“Our show this spring showcases some really fun iconic American music including Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, Rock Around the Clock and Mr. Sandman” continues Chris, “as well as some tender ballads including Sunrise, Sunset and Climb Every Mountain. I’m really loving the changes with our new director and new members – it’s inspiring! We’re having so much fun getting together and practicing to get ready for April.”

“Sun Flakes Frivolity will be performed on Sunday, April 12 at 3:00 p.m. and again at 7:00 p.m. at the Cottonwood San Tan Ballroom. Tickets will be on sale soon at the new Cottonwood Palo Verde Homeowners Administration building (at the corner of Robson and Riggs),” says President Patti, “Tickets will be $15 and a portion of our proceeds will be donated to a local performing arts group. We got two standing ovations at last year’s show, Noah’s Follies and we are determined to put on an even better one this year!”

“It’s a pleasure for us to provide this kind of artistic event for Sun Lakes,” adds Director Adam, “I hope our community will embrace the Chordaires because it is for our community that we exist. So, everyone, please come!”
