The Chordaires show, “A Weekend in New York,” entertained a sold-out crowd on April 5 with popular songs sung barbershop style.

Three well-known Sun Lakes performers, Ginger Henry, Barbie Bergerson, and Nancy Patterson, starred in a skit about three girlfriends on a trip to the Big Apple. They were funny throughout and touching during their visit to the 9/11 Memorial. The Chordaires accompanied their sightseeing adventure with such favorites as “New York, New York” and “Dancing Queen.”

Tribute, a men’s barbershop quartet, stepped in at the last minute to replace the mixed quartet who had to cancel due to illness. Director Kirk Hyder, who has many friends in the Valley music community, was able to arrange the replacement while he was leading the dress rehearsal. “It was a bit of a hectic day,” he said, “but they did a great job with only 48 hours’ notice. We’re so grateful.”

Show Chair Ann Buckheister, who pulled the whole show together for the second time this year, was excited at the reception it received. “Our chorus worked so hard this year under the leadership of Barb and Kirk, and it really paid off. Now we’re all going to rest up and enjoy the summer. Next October we will start working on our Christmas program.”
