Yvonne Orlich, Sun Lakes Chorale

It’s hard to believe that with this issue of the Splash, we are so close to the Sun Lakes Chorale annual Holiday Concert. This year’s concert is on Thursday, Dec. 8. As usual, the concert will be hosted at the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church on Riggs Road, just east of Sun Lakes Boulevard. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the concert to start promptly at 7 p.m.

Advance tickets may be purchased from any Chorale member, at Ace Hardware on Riggs Road and Dobson on Ticket Tuesdays (see dates below), and at the door on the day of the concert. Tickets are still just $10, and it is $10 well spent. You will be entertained with Christmas music, all rehearsed and prepared with the dedication of our singers, directors, and musical accompanists. This annual concert is a great way to help kick off the holiday season!

Grant awarded: On another topic, we are thrilled to announce that we recently received a grant from the Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation (GSLCF). This award was announced to our general membership on Oct. 3 at our regular rehearsal, and the news was received with great enthusiasm. On Oct. 5 members of the Sun Lakes Chorale Board and the Board of the Greater Sun Lakes Community Foundation met for the presentation of the check. It was the decision of the Chorale Board to apply for this grant after some substantial financial losses incurred in 2019 when our Spring Concert had to be canceled just a day or two before the concert due to the COVID-19 outbreak. All ticket sales monies were refunded, and we had other concert expenses that could not be recouped. We sincerely thank the GSLCF for their assistance and for approving our application. The money will be used over a variety of areas for expenses that the Chorale incurs each year.

So, all is going well with our Chorale. Members have returned after a summer break with enthusiasm, and we are practicing in earnest to once again provide a concert of Christmas and holiday music to touch all who attend. Please try to join us for this annual event. You’ll leave with a smile on your face.
