Computer Booters pause to refresh

Kc Coller, Publicity Director

That’s correct! It’s that time of year when the snow and cold subsides and our winter residents head north. It’s also time for the club to refresh with new plans for next season’s guest speakers and learning programs for the members. These behind the scenes activities hopefully intrigue or perk enough interest for the club membership to sign up for and attend. This new knowledge is obtainable at the monthly meetings where there will be the sign-up sheets for each class. So everyone take a deep breath over these summer months and return fresh for our next general meeting September 6 to see what is being offered.

Before we adjourn we want to express our appreciation to Ron Schott, a technology entrepreneur, who presented a Powerpoint program about the Arizona Technology Council which is Arizona’s premier trade association for science and technology companies. They serve business sectors like aerospace, aviation, defense, health, telecommunications plus many others. He explained how the Arizona Tech Council helps technology and science businesses in Arizona thrive.

It was our reward to learn about the interactions with the different divisions.

Ron told us that Arizona is ranked the ninth largest state by job growth and is expected to rank No. 1 in the nation within the next three years. Also, Phoenix will become the technology hub of this nation. Right now it’s one of the top 20 cities of technology startups (much is credited to the Arizona technology boom).

We were leaning forward in our seats especially when being told that Arizona has three of the very top ranked high schools in the nation – imagine three!

It is refreshing to hear, learn and get excited about positive happenings in or for our state and a lot of this is learned through our guest speakers at our general meetings. Who knew?

As always the meeting adjourned after the drawings for the door prizes.

No meetings now until September 6 and no classes until October. Meetings will be in the Navajo Room at Sun Lakes Country Club beginning at 7:00 p.m. Guests are always welcomed and you may stay in tune with the club by logging into www.computerbooters.org.

Have a full, fun and safe summer!
